New Urban Farmer Certification Program

November 30, 2010 by Friends of Salem Saturday Market

Friends of Salem Saturday Market is excited to announce a new partnership with Pringle Creek Community and OSU Master Gardeners to offer an Urban Farmer Certification program.

This new certification, geared toward people in their 20s and 30s, will teach you valuable gardening skills and how to grow your own healthy, organic food. Classes will be taught once per month by farmers and OSU Master Gardeners. Topics will include garden planning, seed starting, beneficial insects, composting and soil health, chicken keeping and more.

The program includes classroom learning and a hands-on component in Pringle Creek Community’s greenhouses and community garden. To obtain the certification, participants must successfully apply their knowledge in the field.

Classes will be held at Pringle Creek Community. There will be a total of 10 classes, held on the last Saturday of the month from January through October, from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $60 per person, or $100 per couple. FSSM members receive a 20% discount! (Click here to become an FSSM member.) Scholarships are also available.

Space is limited, so sign up soon by calling 503-315-1055 or emailing shannon@pringlecreek.com. For more information, visit www.pringlecreek.com.
